Where to stay in Berlin
Hello. Heading to Berlin in 2 weeks. Looking to rent an apt on Craigslist for 7 nights and would like tips on which area to stay. 1st time in Berlin. No car. Like to walk. May try to bike short straightforward distances. And advice on which travel pass to buy will be appreciated. Any tips at all. I am reading fodors and frommers right now. I could spent 10 nights but not sure if I'll be bored. Traveling alone. Thank you. Any day trips or short 1-2 nights suggestions from Berlin?

If you are willing to use public transport, Berlin is a great place to do so.
Here's one site with info including the transport passes:

When i go to Berlin I stay on or near the Potsdamer Platz which I find a convenient base.

We loved the location on a square near the Paris store, Lafayette. It was next to the famous chocolate store and restaurant called Fassbinder. (I think) Fabulous city, good day trips to rural areas and Potsdam.

Day trips I made : .Potsdam and Leipzig. both easy to reach and interesting.
. Visited Hamburg overnight, really liked it,
wished I stayed two nights.
The area PP mentioned - Gendarmenmarkt. - is beautiful and upscale.
A bit further north, toward the Museum Island along Friedrichstrasse
is excellent area as well.

I hope your Craigslist option works out. The prices quoted there are usually very attractive, but caution is probably called for. I know I'd only be comfortable renting from a craigslist ad if I got the keys when I paid my money.
