Where to start/end trip

I'm planning a trip to Italy and am planning on visiting Rome, Florence, Venice, and Positano. Which cities would you suggest I start and end my trip? Thanks for your help!

When are you planning to travel? That might affect whether you go north to south or south to north...

well, it depends when you're going and how long you have. Of course it's warmer in the south for a bit longer, so you may to work around that. Either way, however, if you're heading south toward Positano, it would be a real shame to miss the Almalfi coast and the island of Capri. They're the most beautiful places in Italy, I think! I was there in Feb, and yeah, it was cold, but nothing a gal from Chicago couldn't handle!

Good luck, and HAVE FUN!

Thinking either May or September...will definitely visit Capri either for a day or overnight...just not undecided.

In May, I'd try to fly into Naples, do Positano first, then Rome, Florence, and Venice and fly home from Venice.
In September, I'd probably still do the same!

Since it's more important to have warm weather in a beach town like Positano than in an art city like Venice, I'd fly into Venice and fly out of Naples (you'll probably have to connect somewhere) in May; in September, I'd do the reverse: fly into Naples and fly out of Venice.

The order is Venice - Florence - Rome - Positano or vice-versa.

Both in May and September you are likely to have good weather throughout your trip.

Thanks for getting back with me. Does anyone have any suggestions for places to stay (apt., hotel or B&B) in any of those cities?

I would not end the trip in Rome. Rome is fantastic, but very busy, very crowded and you will have much to see and do. I would get this all done and then to the other cities, areas in a relaxed pace....whether you end north or south. Just my opinion and sure to be questioned by others.....

I guess it would be helpful to give a price range...something nice between E100 and E300. Would be willing to spend more in one city for a romantic stay.

Hi sarah,

Is that for a single or a double?

Also, how many days is your visit?
