Where to pick up rental car in Seville? Train Station or Airport?

I thought that the best and most convenient place to pick up our rental car in Seville when we are ready to leave after 4 days and continue towards the small villages in the mountains, would be the train station.

Now I am reading that it may be very congested with traffic and difficult to leave the city. Is it a better idea to pick up from the Seville airport?

Many thanks for quick replies!!

It is probably more expensive to pick up at the airport. And, it may be more expensive to pick up at the train station vs. a city location.

Check kemwel.com or autoeurope.com for each location to see which is more cost effective.

It does not cost more to drop the car at an airport or train station, just the pick up.

Cost is not a factor here. I am worried about having to drive out of the city and wonder whether the location is right smack in the city center and if there may be issues with driving there. That is why I ask about getting the car at the airport. In actuality I have yet to ever pick up a car anywhere other than an airport but since I will have been in Andalucia already for a week in the cities and am taking the car for the second week, I am not AT an airport for pick-up.

Again, cost does not factor into this situation. Please respond only with regard to traffic congestion and difficulty. Thanks !!

I stayed in Sevilla in April of 2012 and had planned to pick up the rental car at the train station, but as the time got nearer, I chickened out. Traffic was bad, and there were many one-way streets and other confusing aspects of the streets.

I decided to pick up the car at the airport, which was more expensive, but I felt better about it.

Thank you Pegontheroad!! That was what I needed to hear. I guess I will change my reservation for airport pick-up. How far was the airport from your hotel, assuming you stayed in the city center as I will? Did you take a taxi there? Do you remember the price? Thanks much !!

It's actually very easy to pick up at the train station, but if you are not comfortable with the city traffic, then the airport is the best option.

Actually if you're heading towards Ronda, it's really quick and easy to get right on the highway. It's about the only driving I'll do in Sevilla.

I took a taxi there. I don't recall how much it cost, but it was probably around 30 euros.

When I returned the car in Madrid, I had intended to go to the airport. I kept telling my travel partner that we'd see a sign for the airport on the freeway signs. Never happened, and we were forced into city center at rush hour. What a mess!

We couldn't even change lanes, it was so busy. We finally gave up and drove out of town to another freeway/autostrada, where we did see an airport sign over the Autostrada.

We picked up our car at the train station a few months ago. Santa Justa station is very close to large arteries leading out of the city, so you do not have to do any driving on little narrow one-way streets. If you get clear directions at the rental office, you should not have trouble leaving the city.

The rental offices are upstairs at the station.

Thanks eks!! I may indeed decide to stay with my original choice of pick-up at the train station. You write that "if you get clear directions at the rental office" - does that mean that I COULD find myself in a mess of small one-way streets, etc.?

As a rule of thumb, we try to pick up a rental car on the periphery of any town so we do not have negotiate our way through traffic. It often costs a few cents more, but is much easier.

No...the station is really close to the outbound highway. It is not near the center of the city with all of those narrow streets. You will get out of the station and after a few blocks, you will be on (ready for this??) Avenida Kansas City. This is a wide boulevard that will lead you to the beltway around the city. We had no map and no GPS and it was not bad at all.

Are you heading towards Ronda? That is the direction we took. Much more difficult was finding our way THROUGH Ronda (we were not stopping there on that day) because there was construction around the city (last October, 2012) and many directional road signs had been removed!

The road from Sevilla to Ronda is easy, and there was little traffic. Pretty scenery..green rolling hills, dotted with "white towns."

I can't wait to read your trip report!!!

Indeed we ARE heading to Ronda!! We are staying IN Ronda for 2 nights and plan to take day trips around the area. Thanks again for good info. I guess I WILL stay with the original plan of pick up at the station.

Since you were there not so long ago, have you any "picks" of places in the area you liked best?
