Where to meet in Orvieto?

We plan to meet our friends in Orvieto for lunch and a stroll through the city before moving on to a villa in Tuscany. Where would be a good meeting place with parking for our rental cars? Any suggestions for a nice/moderate priced lunch near a location that we could stroll through afterward? Our friends are not able to walk far due to health issues and I am interested in finding a spot that would be easy for them to reach. Thanks in advance for the help!

If you're willing to drive up to the top of town, you can park in the parking lot in front of/around the cathedral and meet them on the cathedral steps. There are cafés galore all around there.

We did as StCirq suggests and found the lot full and had to move on to another one to the eastern edge of town (and we were lucky to find a spot there).

Maybe the railroad station would be a safer bet (haven't been there though).

The rail station at the bottom of town has a big free parking lot and a funicular train which takes you to a waiting shuttle bus at the top to take you to the duomo. You can meet your friends in front of the tourist office there in the parking lot and then all take the little train/bus combo right up to the piazza del duomo. You can buy tickets for the funicular/shuttle bus there in the tourist office.

kaster,
I agree with Kristina. Park in the train lot take the funicular up to the town and the shuttle bus to the Duomo. As you face the Duomo on the left hand side there are cafes where you can sit and have a glass of wine while you wait. If you don't drink wine go to the farthest building on the left, about a 100 meters, where you can sit and have a gelato. If you don't drink wine or eat gelato you can sit on the Duomo steps and cry about it.

For lunch try La Pergola about two blocks from the Duomo.

We spent a week at an agriturismo outside Orvieto and went into the old town about three times. We always took the funicular and bus. It's much easier than hoping to find parking up top.
