Where to go in Spain over Christmas and New Year
We will be visiting our daughter over the holidays this year and need advice as to where to go. She is living in Cordoba. We have visited much of Andalucia before, but in Aug/sept. We will be there for 2 weeks. Where should we go over Christmas and New Years? We're open to anything!

Andalucia. Costa de la Luz or Costa Blanca.
Find a small village to visit and enjoy the New Year's eve celebration in the town square at midnight.
Costa de la Luz situates you for a day trip or overnight trip into Morocco via the ferry at Tarifa if that interests you at all. Tangier has the United States Legation museum which is very interesting.

Ok. I will take a look at Costa De la Luz. We live in San Diego so we don't need to be somewhere warmer or with a beach if there is somewhere else that you recommend we do or see at that time.

Costa de la Luz for windsurfing or kite flying during the 12 Days of Christmas? Are you serious? You will find the Christmas season in Spain is one for celebration, not windsurfing on the Costa de la Luz.

Agreed. We aren't really looking to be windsurfing. We would like to go somewhere where we can see what Christmas is like in Spain and where there isn't so much rain that it isn't fun to go out and explore. We have been to Madrid and much of Andalucia and love it there. And out daughter is living in Cordoba so we most likely will want to go there and least for a few days to see where she is living, although we have visited Cordoba before. So based on that, should we go to Barcelona, Costa Brava? Or would you recommend Costa de la Luz? Or? We're up for anything.

Pick a city just about anywhere in Spain and you'll find what you're looking for. Lights, Creches, some with live performers, and if you can stay long enough for Three Kings Day, the processions around the country are beautiful, something you'll never forget. The one in Vic was outstanding.
If weather is any concern, then staying along the Costa del Sol, in or around Malaga, would probably work. Valencia and Barcelona should also offer a little better weather. Myself, I prefer the Basque coast. Madrid is also nice during the Christmas season. There is always a lot going on. It's almost as nice as being in Paris at Christmas time.

We have never been to Barcelona, so thar is of interest. I know the weather won't be at its best, we just don't want it to preclude us from being able to explore. Is Valencia worth seeing? I just love Andalucia ( sevilla, cordoba, Ronda, Granada) but feel we should see other places as well
What if we flew to Madrid and took the train to cordoba either just for the day or for one night just to see where our daughter is living, then head back to Madrid for a few nights and then take the train to Barcelona. We could then fly out of Barcelona and could our daughter take the train back to Cordoba?
I do like visiting smaller towns as well -- not sure if there is something near by that is worth it?
Also, I'm thinking it might be better to rent an apartment over Christmas if we are in Madrid. Or would a hotel be okay?

For skiing? Then head to La Molina, or better yet, to Baqueira in the Val d'Aran, and stay at the AC Baqueira Ski Resort (Marriott), or at the Parador de Vielha. The other option would be to head to the Hotel Mauberme in Salardu (www.hotelmauberme.com), if there are any rooms available at this late date.
