Where to go in France for walking holiday??
Hi there,
Trying to decide on a destination in France. We are a couple in our thirties and are hoping to go for one week to France in September. Here are the things we would like:
Beautiful scenery
Easy walking trails
A couple of very nice hotels
mild weather
Lovely scrummy food and wine
Was thinking of Dordogne and possibly doing
one of those organised walking holidays- hubbie is more keen on the walking and I am more keen on the holiday side of things!! The hotels featured on these walking holidays appear to be quite basic and I would like a little luxury. Does anyone know of any where where we could base ourselves in a good hotel and do some relatively easy walks (6-10Kms)?
Your help is greatly appreciated!!!

Consider the Luberon in Provence... we think it is one of the very best places in all of Europe for hiking/walking and it definitely meets all your criteria.

Unless you wants to do lots of research, an "organized walking holiday" (a self-guided tour) is a great way to do a trip like this. We've done several in various parts of Europe, and there are quite a few tours available in the Luberon. I have some listed in the piece above.
We spend several months a year in the Luberon and have hiked hundreds of miles here-- many hundreds still to go. I'd be happy to answer any questions.

This site covers the Pyrenees Oriental region. There's a lot of information about this part of the Pyrenees and the walking around that area has superb walks.
You can stay along the coastal walks or you could try a walk up into the mountains. Like it says: Horses for Courses.
Check out Google for Collioure and walks. This is a perfect place of what you're looking. The hotels are great, there are beaches, and the walks along the coastal section is good too. Plus, you can walk up into the lower part of the mountains.

This is from the first link but this is direct to some of the walks around this area.
September is still a nice area in this region. People are still bathing on the sea, the restaurants are still open on the beaches, and the hot days are past.
