Where can I do my laundry in Oia or Mykonos?
We are going to try to travel much lighter on this trip so we will need to do our laundry once we get to Greece. As we are staying in Oia for 5 nights followed by 4 nights on Mykonos, we will need to do our laundry at some point.
Can you tell me where to go and what to expect (ie, do we do our own laundry or are we paying someone else to do it for us?)
Any idea of costs?
As always, thanks!

There might be a dropoff laundry in Oia or your hotel might offer that service. Many do. Just ask them. It won't be cheap and there is no self-service laundromat. Depending on the hotel you might be able to do it yourself by hand if there is someplace to hang it out to dry. Sometimes I wash one or two items at a time this way and just drape them over a chair in the sun on my balcony. You can buy small packages of detergent in the markets.
No info about Mykonos.

Thanks BLL! I am actually staying at the "Old Oia Houses" based on your recommendations! I sent Gill and Vasillis an email asking them as well.
I usually bring some of the small packs of liquid Tide so if all else fails, I will do as you say.

Hi namaka,
Whenever I travel to the Greek Islands I bring clothes that are hand washable and need little ironing, along with a small travel bottle filled with Tide and some spot remover. It's easy to wash and rinse clothes in the bathroom basin and hang them out to dry. Most hotels supply a drying rack on the balcony for swim suits and beach towels, or have a clothesline in the garden. It doesn't take long for clothes to dry in the hot Greek sun, and the wind removes most of the wrinkles.

We used the drying rack on our terrace at Esperas in Oia. We never found a laundromat during our entire 6 week trip to Greece. We hired the housekeeper for our rental cottage to do our laundry for us on Crete. Luckily Greece is a rather dry and sunny climate so your hand washed items will dry quickly.

Thank you Heimdall. I guess that is what we will do! As far as drying fast you reminded me that when we were in Rome and wash our laundry and then hung it on the line to dry, it was dry in less than an hour (or at least it seemed that way).
If anyone else comes up with another way please feel free to post!

There was a laundromat across the street from our hotel in Naxos (Hotel Galini) that did a quick turnaround, but we didn't see one in Oia. In Oia we also used our terrace to dry things and it was pretty private so nobody complained to us at the hotel.
This question was also asked previously and apparently there are laundromats in Mykonos town and in Fira:

HappyTrvlr and cheryllj, thanks for your inut. I actually found the thread after I posted mine.
Looks like we will hand wash while in Santorini and I found out that our hotel will do our laundry for €10 per bag which is not unreasonable.
Thanks to everyone!!!!

With the "hotel service" Just be careful of anything that might not do too well in hot water or hot dryer. I had a pair of permanent-press trousers (blend of synthetics) come back completely wrecked. and a talbots T that went down a size .. Some hotls farm them out to an old auntie in a black dress who throws them into a hot washer & dryer. If you have things of concern, which you drop at desk for service, it's good to have the desk person pin on a note In Greek "Cold water wash only; hang to dry"

Our hotel in Santorini (Old Oia Houses) will also handle doing our laundry for us as well as the hotel on Mykonos (Kamari Hotel). I am not sure yet what Old Oia will charge but we will probably only have to have it done once between the two islands.
Thanks travelerjan, I was just thinking about how I will need to be careful with the delicates/cold wash/hang dry items. Those will just be the things we will take care of on our own. It's not even just there; I once took my nicest pair of slacks to a dry cleaners here in California and they came back at least one or two sizes smaller and shorter. I couldn't even do anything about it though because I didn't wear them until months later. : (

Ex Officio makes fantastic albeit pricey underwear that dries overnight, I am a big basin washer and only pack thin jerseys that will dry quickly when travelling. I have a twisted rubber suction clothesline that always works when the ones over the tubs are broken. Tide stick, and packets of washing deterg. always do it for us for a 3-wk trip.
