What to do in Rome with a Monday arrival?

We will arrive on a Monday, and only stay until Thursday morning. So, I am in the process of planning our trip and am not sure of the best things to do on Monday, since it seems that some/many things are closed.

Any suggestions for an itinerary for a Monday morning arrival? (I know we will be tired, but we will sleep on the plane, and not nap during the day so as to let our bodies be tired Monday night...So we will be ready to go on Monday.)

Thanks!!

Eric

Churches will be open for visits, and that's where a lot of Rome's best art is
The Vatican Museums are open.
St Peter's Scavi tour
Castel Sant'Angelo
Catacombs
Colosseum
Pantheon

personally, on the first day a little tired i'd save the vatican as it really does deserve full attention.

i'd hit the colosseum, pantheon, trevi, and the San Clemente church (near the colosseum), which has a cool underground section. but please skip any food consumption around the colosseum because for the most part you'll be sorry. although on the way (same street) to san clemente there is a pizza place that sells pizza by weight and it was pretty good.

i'll be getting there this upcoming Monday morning. so far, my friends and i are planning on hitting the forum, colosseum, and san clemente on that first day.

we have the same plan of sleeping on the plane and staying up all day so we can be tired monday night and attempt to adjust to the time.

Hi, I think staying awake the day you arrive and not sleeping until that evening is the best way to go. At least that is what has always worked for me.

Walking around, fresh air, some decent food (unlike airplaine food) without overeating, and a good nights sleep the first night in Italy IMHO starts you off the next day in good shape. Have a fun trip!
