What section of Krakow should we stay in?
My husband and I will be in Krakow next month for 2 nights. We are trying to find the right location to stay in, preferably a B&B. We've looked at the Main Market Square area and the Old Jewish Center. I've looked thru this site and really haven't been able to find any recommendations one way or another. Does anyone out there have a preference?
Thanks! Mary

I would stay near the main Square area, the Jewish quarter wouldn't be as convenient, you'd have to walk a long way (maybe a couple miles) or figure out public transport to get most places you probably want to see (except the museum or old synagogues right in the Jewish Qtr). I was staying on the edge of the Old Town square, the side of the Jewish Qtr, and I think it was over a mile to walk there. It wasn't that easy to figure out the bus/tram system in Krakow as even the tourist office wouldn't give me a map or explain it, and I am very good with those kinds of things. They said they didn't have any maps of the transit system.

We stayed at Hotel Wentzl which is in Market Square. All rooms face the square, have a view of the Cloth Hall and St. Mary's. The breakfast set up (included) was sufficient. And it's right around the corner from the Szambelan shop that sells interesting and very good Polish vodkas and liquers.
But be forewarned -- NO ELEVATOR.

Hi,
In 2003 we stayed at the Saski Hotel on a side street just off the Main Square. We loved the hotel and the location - just perfect for sightseeing. The price included a hot and cold buffet breakfast - eggs cooked to order, hot meats, cold meats, cheeses, cereal, yogurt, pastries. I recommended the Saski to a colleague at work and he and his family enjoyed it as well.

I, also, stayed right off the main square (Rynek Glowny) in the lovely Guesthouse Trecius and found it to be very convenient. There were a few nights when the square was pretty noisy, but not really very late into the night.
