What neighborhood should we stay in Madrid?

Hello! I'm traveling to Madrid in August with 4 other friends. We're all in our 30s and looking to just have some fun. We're only going to be staying in Madrid for 3 nights. Does anyone have any apartment reco's or insight into the different neighborhoods that we should be looking at?

My initial research has netted out these two apartments (one in La Latina and one in Arguelles):

We're also open to other places, but just not familiar. We want to try and keep it under $300/night.

Would love any input on those neighborhoods or other suggestions!

Thanks!

I am not really familiar with either of those neighborhoods, but I really enjoyed the neighborhood around Plaza Santa Ana - Plaza Santa Ana has a great vibe with a lot of restaurants and bars, people hanging out, friendly atmosphere. And that area is pretty convinient to public transportation, close to the Prado and other museums.

For people in their 30s I'd recommend La Latina better than Argüelles (this is a student area with nightlife for the younger crowd).

Thanks for your response! What about Atocha? We found an apartment there that says:

Located in right by the Retiro Park, and only a step from the famous Prado Museum, this apartment is perfectly convenient for groups and families. Situated in the heart of a very well harmed area and next to the Atocha Station.

And another one that's in Puerta del Sol, near the Tirso de Molina metro station.

Any thoughts on those versus La Latina?

La Latina is reputed to be a lively student area but maybe in August there will be no students around. A lot of the shops etc are closed around Chamberi (where I am currently stayingg () are closed for the whole of Aug.
