Hotel in Madrid
My husband and I (28 years old, energetic) will be staying in Madrid at the end of March. We are wondering what the best area to stay in a hotel is. We would love to get a hotel for less than $150 U.S. dollars per night, but still be in an area where we can see a lot of sights and be close to some bars and restaurants as well.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

I go to Madrid fairly often and always stay in the area near Plaza Santa Ana/ Plaza Las Cortes. This area is also referred to as Barrio Las Letras. Staying in this area puts you within walking distance to the main museums of the city, as well as to the Plaza Mayor, Old Madrid, Royal Palace and Retiro park. Many hotels in that area at different price points.Check for your dates at Hotel Prado, Hotel Catalonia Las Cortes, Hotel Vincci Soho, they should be around your price point. You could also go to Booking.com and check the areas where you would like to stay (the ones I'm referring to is Barrio de las Letras and Triangulo del arte).

Madrid has extensive public transit, including a large Metro subway system. Access to the Metro is one element I have considered when choosing a Madrid hotel. There are surface buses too.

Second cruiseluv's suggestion, I always stay in super central and great value Persal or Hotel Plaza Mayor. Both are within your budget and basic hotel standard (private bath, tv, AC, safe, 24h desk, breakfast etc). 200 meters apart.

About the area:

Persal is 50 meters from Plaza Santa Ana: http://www.gomadrid.com/sights/plaza-santa-ana.html
HPM is 50 meters from majestic Plaza Mayor: http://www.gomadrid.com/sights/plaza-mayor.html
Right on your doorstep you'll find some of the best flamenco venues in the country (Casa Patas, Cardamomo), two of the best jass venues in town (Cafe Central and Populart) as well as great bars and restaurants. Calle Echegaray, just off Plaza Santa Ana, is full of great nightlife, some excellent bars and clubs here. Start in La Venencia: http://theculturetrip.com/europe/spa...sit-in-madrid/

I would try the new Dear Hotel in Gran Via. They have opened this year, and it looks great. I have only been to the restaurant and the sky lounge, and it is quite surprising.
The Malasaña and Conde Duque neighbourhoods are around the corner, with plenty of bars and restaurants and clubs.

It is touristic, yes, but less than Barrio de Las Letras.
Bye, Cova
