What kind of hot is it in Salamanca, Spain?
Hi all,
I know it gets hot in Spain. But can anyone describe the flow of the day in terms of typical heat? How hot is it in the morning? Night? I don't mind heat so much, but is it humid? How humid? I live in NYC so summer heat is not a new one, but I wanted to be prepared - mentally and wardrobe-ly lol...
I also hear that Spaniards are quite conservative in dress. Does that mean that even though it's hot, I shouldn't wear shorts? Is this the same for men and women?

Spain is MUCH hotter than NYC in midsummer. NYC at worst is high 90s and humid - Spain can be 115 - or even more. You need a hotel with good AC and a pool - and transit similar. Asways carry water so you can tay well hydrated.
We go there only in April - since after that it's just too hot for us.

Salamanca and Madrid are very dry ( usually). The heat during the day can be oppressive so you will want to be inside a lot. Evenings, of course, get cooler. I am sure there are some charts somewhere to answer this question much more professionally.

Wow! Never heard 115! Ouch. Dry is good. Dry is very good news. 
My school has student apartments for rent at 5 weeks for a total of 400 euros for my husband and me. (The first 3 weeks are at a homestay.) I am almost considering renting an apartment, but they seem to be at 1500 euros minimum a month for those with air conditioning, or much more.
Ah well... guess I'll have to bare with it like the locals. Fan... cold drinks... Do the locals really wear pants in summer though??

There are places in Spain that are often over a 100 F. in summer, but that would be in the south, I think. Salamanca isn't that bad, nor Madrid. Highs would be more like upper 80s to lower 90s. And it's drier than many places in the US Mid-Atlantic Coast area, but it's not going to be like a desert. It's like any plce, it is cooler at night and then warms up during the day, should be down about twenty degrees at night.

Last year in July, the avg max temp was 33 C and the avg low 13. that was about 91-92 F high.
