Unless you are plugging in something that can withstand the 220 current, you will also want an adaptor. Most cell phones and camers are 110/220 now. I remember "cooking" a travel iron once because I plugged it in using the adaptor but not the converter. Also, my hair dryer from home did not work very well on 220v. I didn't use my converter for it and was not happy with how it worked. Just make sure your appliance is OK with 220.

My converter from Radio Shack specifically says not to use it with electronic components with a chip or circuit such as CD players, radios, camcorder chargers, etc. While it doesn't specifically mention phones, I am concerned. Any thoughts?

ksddfam - Why would you need a voltage converter for your phone? If your phone is a tri- or quad-band GSM phone that's useable in Spain or France, its charger should be 110-240v already.
