what is a Tube Photocard?
i read about Photocards in london. do i need one if i will be using a TravelCard? Or does the travelcard have its own photo? If I am going to use 4 Day TravelCards do i need 4 photos? how many photos do i need to bring with me? can they be black & white/ computer printed? i hope my questions dont sound too dorky, its just that i like trying to figure out the optimal cost saving solution for my travels.sort of a mini obsession. thanks

You will require a colour passport photo for a photocard if you are purchasing a tube ticket (travelcard) for a week or longer. If you are just buying day tickets or weekend tickets you will not need one. If you are buying a ticket each day for 4 days you will not require a photo or photocard.

clear information! thanks so much. TFL should put your words into their booklet:http://www.tfl.gov.uk/common/downloads/2004-fares.pdf
I read the photo part many times but it was not clear on what was required.
thanks again

Actually, it is clear there although it is buried...
For the past year and a half, London Underground no longer requires a photocard for 7 day zone 1 or zone 1 & 2 travelcards. Visitor travelcards and one day travelcards never required a photocard.

Just to tack on to xyz123's post, no photo is required for ADULT 7 Day Zone 1 or Zone 1&2 Travel Cards. Kid's require photo's. It doesn't have to be a professional passport photo. Something cut from a snapshot is just fine...maybe an 1.5 by 1.5 inches.
It's all in the buried in the tfl website. Clear as mud.

Well for what it's worth, the part of the document the OP referred to states:
You need a photocard before you can buy or use a 7 Day(*), monthly or longer period Travelcard or Tube only season ticket.
*not for Zone 1 or 2 or Zones 1 - 2 Travelcards.
A photocard is not needed for an adult rate 7 Day Bus Pass. Until 26 September 2004, a valid photocard must accompany all other Bus Pass season tickets.
From 26 September 2004, a photocard will not be needed to buy and use any adult rate Bus Pass. A valid photocard will still be needed to buy and use child Bus Pass season tickets.
That seems pretty clear to me.

what's clear was if you needed a photocard, not if a photo is required for a day travelcard. It is not very intuitive that you would need a photo for a 7 Day travelcard but not for a 1 Day travelcard. I feel this should be explained in the TFL document.
