what color is the card?

We will be leaving for paris in a few days. regarding the metro--I read here about a card that costs 13.25 euros and is good for as many on and offs on the metro and bus as you care to make. what card is this? do you need a picture for it? Does the week start on Monday and extend until when?where can it be purchased?

If you're going to be in Paris for many days, get a Carte Orange (cart oh-rahnge) with a coupon semaine (coo-pohn suh-men)- it costs about $15 and gives you unlimited use of the Metro and buses for 1 week - Monday through Sunday. It's sold at Metro station booths until Wed - not after that. You'll be given a small ticket, a card, and a plastic holder. You'll also need a small ID photo about 1" square - there are photo machines at certain metros (you can split the cost by switching after each photo is taken). I'd suggest bringing photos with you so you don't have to search for a photo machine - nothing fancy - just your face on a small 1" photo - use a Polaroid. Fill out the back of the card, attach the photo to the card, seal it in the plastic holder, write the number of the card on the ticket and store the ticket in the plastic holder. Use the ticket in the turnstile machines in the Metro. On the buses just open the folder to show the card. For more Paris information e-mail me: [email protected]

Fred tells it right. I would only add that having the card is terrific psychologically. When the weather was bad or if we were very tired we'd use it even if we were only going a short distance. If we had to pay each time we probably wouldn't have. To Tommy - at least Fred answered the poster's question. What have you done besides making a stupid comment?

Mac: You should know answering questions is one thing asking for $10.00 to support your private web site and materials stolen from other sites is something else. Fred has been up to this bs here and many other travel sites.

Re the carte orange: Our week in Paris starts on a Thursday...looks like we're out of luck since the card runs Mon-Sun.
Is the best alternative to buy "carnets"? How much do carnets cost? We will be using both metro and buses. Thanks for your help.

Why all this bashing of Fred? If you don't email him, you won't be asked for $10.00. Personally , I would rather be asked for $10.00 than called an idiot or stupid. Bad mouthing seems to be the favorite activity of a few posters.

Tommy-

I just want to take this opportunity to thank you. I had never heard of Fred's site but thanks to you I e-mailed him and found out about it. It's terrific – I only wish I had known about it before our trip. I joined up and will be using it for our next trip to Paris. I think it's worth very much more than he asks and I really don't see what you're complaining about. If you don't like it, don't use it. But you seem so knowledgable about it, I do not doubt that you use it secretly.
