Well, I just booked through Auto Europe

and they tell me I will be picking up my car from EuropeCar -- which is the one place everyone on here said to avoid. AE said they hadn't had problems with them.

Other than photographing any dent or scratch on the car when we pick up, having them sign off, then again when we turn in, any advice?

Interestingly, the price for two weeks for an Audi is not much more than renting a Buick for the same time period at SeaTac.

I have not had any problems with Europcar (it was the rental agency more than once) with one exception which was due to my stupidity. The long and the short of it, make sure that you have written proof of any transaction or extra fee such as airport pick-up fee which is not included in the original contract.

Hi H,

>EuropeCar -- which is the one place everyone on here said to avoid.

It is EuropAcar that is the problem.

We have had no problem with Europcar.

We too have used EuropeCar via AutoEurope and have had no problems...except for the tim that the closing time for lunch was not what was posted on the office door in Nice. We just sat it out in the Parc Prince-Albert across the street and enjoyed the fresh air.

I too just booked with AutoEurope, and what served us best was Europcar. We read the comments a few weeks ago about Europcar and also were a little apprehensive. Autoeurope assure me that they are FINE and I feel they WILL be. AND as someone said,,,if a problem you would contact AutoEurope.(and they have good 24 hr. customer service back in Maine,,,toll free)

Used them a couple of other times and it worked out well.

It's a good idea to photograph the entire vehicle - inside and out.

I use EuropCar nine times out of ten (while reserving through AutoEurope) and am fully satisfied with their service. They also correct billing errors much faster than the other companies (and I have had a few errors from time to time, considering the number of cars I rent -- I currently have 4 rentals set up over the next 3 weeks in both Paris and Strasbourg).

Europcar used to be a subsidiary of Volkswagen.

They are a good and reliable rental car company. I never had any problems with them.

When you pick up your car, you get a sheet which lists all dents and scratches. You might check if everything is listed, otherwise you can immediately report. On return, there is usually an agent who checks and hands you a copy of the report. Thus, nothing can happen.

The only theoretical risk is if you return off hours and deposit the car key in a box. Only for this situation, photos may help. I personally found it never necessary.

Before Europcar belonged to Volkswagen, it belonged to Renault and Wagons-Lits. Now it is back in French hands through some investment company called Eurazeo.

Hoping:

I've rented through AE for years...for the times theu subbed through EuropeCar, we never had the slightest problem....and again, their Customer Service people in Portland, Maine are very congenial and helpful.

We're using AE for both Portugal and UK next month and they use Guerin as their Lisbon sub...and National as their UK sub. Don't anticipate any problems....we've been given a free upgrade several times, going from Compact to Midsize, and Economy to Compact.
Happy travels...
