Warsaw for the week-end / language question
We've decided to go to Warsaw for the bank-holiday week-end (we live in England). Staying at The Westin. Will spend a couple of days walking around, will visit the Uprising Museum and hopefully take in the Chopin concert in Lazienki Park on the Sunday. Just explore, mainly.
Is English widely spoken in the main areas of Warsaw? Oops ... we've kind of forgotten that aspect of our trip! :/

We visited for three days last fall and had no language difficulty. Everyone in the service sector spoke very good English, for which we were very thankful.
Warsaw is a fascinating city; I hope you have a wonderful time.

Yes, you will have no problems. I did all those things and more without a word of Polish. See if you can get to the Chopin Museum and also the music university has free concerts put on by the students. The Uprising Museum will take a lot of time. I think the Jewish Museum has recently opened too. So much to see in Warsaw.

I'll third that. Not in Warsaw, Krakow or other places popular with overseas visitors. You may have trouble in villages, but just seek out younger people (generally under 30), for whom English is the first foreign language learnt at school. Older people had to learn Russian!

Thank you very much carolw, Leely2, Alec, gertie3751 and 29FEB for answering my question and offering suggestions.
We are so excited about the trip!
My material roots (I am American) are Slovenian and Lithuanian - I am hoping to feel some kindred connections in Poland.
Thanks again.
