I'm trying to figure out the difference between the two.

Forfait Loisir:
19.20 Euros includes round trip RER

Le Passeport:
20 Euros (depends on year and day)
extra 1.5Euros if bought in Paris for round trip RER

Both seem to offer same entrances and audio guides.

Just based on cost Forfait Loisir is better.

Am I missing any additional pros or cons to either?

We just went to Versailles and I don't think the Passport was 20E. I feel like it was 19E. We purchased it at a METRO stop - I believe Concorde but don't have my trip notes in front of me.

Is it possible you're just looking at old pricing information?

The Forfait Loisir pricing was from the SCNF website.

Le Passeport pricing was a combo if info from the FNAC website and Rick Steves website.

The Le Passeport price of 20E is from April-October. November- March is16.

Is there a particular reason you went with the Passeport instead of the Forfait Loisir?

Did the Passeport include round trip RER and the gardens?

The Passeport is just the name of the official pass from Versailles. It's their pass, so the best pricing info is on the Versailles website. SNCF just sells them (and I don't think takes a markup).

The Forfait Loisirs is simply the Passeport plus the RT RER transportation, that's all. I've never heard of buying the passeport and then paying an extra 1.5 euro for R/T RER, who said that? If that's from Rick Steves, don't take any information from him, he's no official source. That RER ticket costs more than 1.5 euro.

I just read Rick Steves, and you are misinterpreting what he said. That extra 1.5 euro he's talking about is the Forfait Loisirs, that's all. That Forfait Loisirs price you got from SNCF is based on it being winter, that's all. Those prices are lower in winter, just because the Passeport itself is cheaper in winter (because they don't have the fountains and I think maybe the hamlet is closed).

If you need an RER ticket, buy the Forfait Loisirs, and if you don't, just buy the Passeport, that's the bottom line.

The Passeport costs 20 euro during the week and 25 euro on weekends or holidays in high season, but only 16 euro during low season, which is basically end of Nov through March, I think.

We purchased the Forfait Loisir at the D'Orsay RER station, the morning we went to Versailles. We tried to buy it at the SNCF office at the Madeleine but were told to get it at an RER station. It was no problem, and trains leave about every 20 minutes. The headphone "tour" included with this package is well worth it, we found.
