Roundtrip via RER C is 4.70E
Frommers has really good, detailed transit information for nearly any major tourist location, including costs.

That pricing is accurate - did it less than a month ago.
Do check the return train schedules when you arrive at Versailles though, as the day we went there was limited scheduling (strike maybe?) and we were ready to leave but had to wait an hour and 20 minutes before the next departure.
That can be a pretty hard hour when you're tired from touring!

At many metro stations you can buy a card that includes admission to Versilles with the price of the RER. I think it was about 20?. You get priority entrance (no waiting in line)and 'free' entrance too all areas of Versailles as well as audioguides. The musical fountain display is included but extras like renting a boat to row on the lake you are charged for. These passes are good for more than one visit - they have a two month duration if I remember correctly.
