We'll be there for 2 nights at the end of September, it's our first visit.

Is it possible to get a clean room for two, ensuite bathroom, a/c, for this price?

I'm not sure what area we should be looking in either, with only two days we don't want to be spending too much time travelling to and fro.

I'm guessing San Marco is most centrally located, but I don't have a feel for any areas.

Any help would be appreciated.

I know this is a Fodor's site but go get yourself Rick Steves' Italy book. We are staying at Albergo Guerrato in June for 90 Euro. We will have AC and free internet - bath across the hall. If you want your own bathroom, en suite is still under 120 Euro. I've always had good luck with Rick's hotel recommendations. Good luck!

I've not stayed at Al Campaniel but I've walked past there dozens of times - it is on our "standard" route from San Barnaba to the Rialto market.

The location is good, ten minutes walk to Rialto, and twenty minutes of well signposted walking to San Marco via Academe. And it's easy to find froom the San Toma waterbus stop, with no bridges (I think) to cross.

The chocolate shop immediately opposite the B&B is a killer.

We spent five nights last month at B & B Gli Angeli in the Castello area. We paid 99 euro per night. We read all of the great reviews on Trip Advisor and booked based on that. The room was large with a king size bed, a good size bathroom, a mini-fridge, in-room coffee maker and plenty of closet space and drawer space for clothes. It's very convenient from the Arsanale vaporetto stop and the B&B is in a quiet residential area.

Just because a place lists AC, doesn't mean it will still be on the end of Sept. Be sure to ask. Some will list on their websites - AC June 15-Aug 30.

We are staying this month at the Hotel Bernardi Semenzato in the Cannarregio siestere for the first time. Double, ensuite, bkf included & AC - though by the ten day forecast, it doesn't look like we'll be needing the AC- for 90 euros. I will report back on my thoughts.

We reserved through Venere.com who we have used before. They have numerous alberghi listed in your price range, so you might take a look there and at least reserve something right away as the further time passes, the harder it will be to find a place. The nice thing about Venere.com is you are not penalized if you then find something that you prefer better and cancel the reservation, as long as its before 48 hours of your stay.

PS-bring your mosquito spray/lotion and keep your winows closed from before dusk...that's my only negative on Venice that time of year.

We found a very reasonable B&B, Ca'Turelli, through venicby; look under B&Bs. It is located in Dorsoduro on a little rio or canal. Small and quiet; our triple had a great bathroom. The breakfast was simple but fine. The location was great, not far from the university and easy access to the Accademia bridge and the Peggy Guggenheim Museum.

FYI, on that same trip we almost stayed at Al Campaniel (mentioned in above posts) but they didn't have a triple room the dates we needed. The were extremely helpful through email, etc, however.

I would recommend reading about the several different neighborhoods in Venice, all of which have their fans, and looking at a Venice map. It's all fairly compact if you don't mind some walking. I've stayed in two others besides Dorsoduro - Cannaregio and San Marco. I wouldn't choose San Marco again, but was very happy w/ Dorsoduoro & Cannaregio.

It's an easy walk from the train station and you can walk to San Marco and the Realto Bridge and get properly lost in Venice.
