Venice - dinner near Accademia?
I am looking for ideas for a restaurant near the Accademia Bridge for a Sunday evening. (We will just be arriving to Venice after a train ride from Rome, and we'll be ready for dinner... and so would like to have this arranged in advance.) We are a family of 4, we would love to find food as local and authentic as possible, casual is best.
Thanks in advance.

Walk to the Zattere fondamenta/ It is on the Canale delle Guidecc. ook on a map, it is not far. You will find a lot of inexpensive pizzerie and casual restaurants with lovely views.

Taverna San Trovaso is near the bridge. It is casual and moderately priced. When I ate there a few years ago the front room was packed with tourists; if this bothers you, be aware that there is at least one other room in the restaurant.

I was in Venice in early July and found a cute little bar/osteria very close to the Accademia. I didn't try it for dinner, but my son and I went twice for cicchetti and it had a nice atmosphere, though it's not too big. It was called Osteria Vecio Forner, and is on the Campo San Vio, which is on the main path between the Accademia and the Guggenheim. Here is the address & phone: Campo San Vio 671/A tel: 39 041 528 0424. It is a casual place. Good luck.

You might try Trattoria Ai Cugnai on Calle Nuova Sant'Agnese behind the Accademia, a cozy family-run place with a little courtyard in back. We enjoyed a lunch and a dinner there last fall (it was quite busy at dinnertime). Great seafood in the local tradition; casual atmosphere. The owner was friendly and fun to talk to in a mix of our pidgin Italian and his basic English.
