What's balderdash about it, Kerouac? What am I missing?

I've never once been flirted with by a parisian produce salesman.
I was once however, pinched on the buttocks by a fish monger.

Agree with Kerouac. Telling people that it is OK to barter at the market is very bad advice. I would not dream of doing it.

logandog, thanks for the laugh
The flirting on the market part is actually accurate. The bartering is completely off though, it would be very rude.

Well, sure, there's a certain theatricality to vendor behavior at most French markets, but barter? Absolutely not.

And the "conversation" between the vendor and the client is way more cutesie than is normal.

I think the bartering might refer to flea markets.

<<I think the bartering might refer to flea markets.>>

If it does, that makes sense.

Boxes of strawberries are seldom sold at flea markets

I don't think so since she suggests doing it with strawberries. And the article is about regular markets, not specialized markets.

les grands esprits se rencontrent, FM2
Had a look at the other pages . Amazing ......... Pesto made with gruyère, pumpkin pie a traditional French dessert for Toussaint and a "gros soupers" (with an "s") in the middle of a French lesson.
