URGENT: 2 days in Barcelona, w/rental car, need accommodation for 4
We're leaving in a week, all set for 9 days in Provence, and the girls are now asking why spend all that time in "one place," and not drive down to magical Barcelona.....
So I'm willing to give that idea a shot... Driving there is about 5.5 hours... Arriving in Barcelona early May, need a nice, clean, yet inexpensive place that can park our rented car, and if possible has a quad room (my budget vs. the climbing Euro -- is starting to make me a bit nervous)...
Any help? please? Thanks....

Barcelona has many reasonable places to stay but why would you even consider having a car while you are there? And another issue--will you be dropping your car in a different country (Spain) than you picked it up in (France)? If so, be prepared for very substantial "drop-off" fees. And Barcelona is not the place to have a car in any case.
The more I think of your idea, the worse it sounds--if you must relocate consider the many options in Provence--the coastal areas, the Luberon, the Dentelles. 9 days will only allow you to scratch the surface and you will not be limited to "one place" even if you stay in Provence.

We're renting the car in France to travel in Provence and Riviera. The idea of diverting to Barcelona for a couple days popped up suddenly when my daughters were concerned that 9 days would be too much for "one place"..... I actually posted a SEPARATE THREAD here, asking for a list of DIFFERENT KINDS of places and things for day trips (no response yet)....
So Barcelona is a "plan B" kind of an idea, in case the days start being repetitious...
I guess what you're saying is not to worry, we will never be bored in Southern France...
So what about my OTHER thread then..... Thanks.

To stay outside of Barcelona is actually quite easy.
Coming from France, a big number of cheap but mostly modern motel-style accomodation along motorway AP-7 is at the (industrial) city of Granollers. Also the cities along the seashore have lots of accomodation options.
If you look up Barcelona on Google maps, check the cities in that NE part of the metropolitan area against offers at hotel consolidator websites like hrs.com or booking.com . So you get a rough idea where those hotels/motels are located.
As you can imagine, the "experience" to stay at one of those places will be similar to stay in a freeway motel at the outskirts of a big US city. Free parking, often also quad rooms, low costs (40-50 euro per room), but not the ambiance of staying in the city of Barcelona.
Or pay, as said before, pay 20-30 euros a day and store your car in one of the many public parking garages in the city.

Yes, exactly, that's the idea, find a simple, clean place outside the city to sleep and leave the car at, take a short train-ride, visit the city for a day, maybe two, and drive back....
Like Hotel H2 Sant Cugat - San Cugat del Valles, $108 a night for a quad room, good reviews, 10 minutes to the train station, 30 minute ride to downtown... Yes, I will look into more north-east suburbs...
OK, so now, can you guys post a list of the absolute most must-sees in Barcelona? You're catching me totally unprepared...
Thanks!

BCN for 2 days..Almost hopeless to get a any feel for BCN..But if you must go the Hopon Hopoff bus is good for an initial look see.
Then if time a ramble on Las Ramblas, the Market, the Parque and then away you go...Enough to make you set up a real trip there..Have a good time. Should you change your mind there is plenty ti keep you occupied in Provence!!

We stayed at this Holiday Inn Express outside of Barcelona: EX BARCELONA-MOLINS DE REI
CARRER DEL PRIMER DE MAIG, 9
MOLINS DE REI, SPAIN 08750
34/93/602 0000
I think we paid about 60 euros per night and we had two rooms, which included breakfast. Parking was included in the price. We drove into the city and parked in underground parking that wasn't cheap but not too expensive either. I believe it was close to the Cortes Ingles on the Ramblas. Las Ramblas, the market (St. Josep?) and Park Guell were wonderful. On the way in from Provence you can stop at the Dali Museum if your girls are interested.

I think that many of the photos are geo-tagged so that you can get come idea of where they were taken.
