Trip to Italy
Hello,
Am planning trip to Italy next year in June. Want to fly from Australia over to Rome preferably with a stopover. Closest international airport is Cairns or Brisbane. What is the most economical route with a stopover for a night?
Thanks in advance

You can, and should, make these calculations yourself. Only you can reach the decisions involved. The Internet is loaded with sites that will help you with the alternatives: www.itasoftware.com, www.kayak.com, www.orbitz.com, www.cheapoair.com, www.hipmonk.com and many others. Once you have narrowed your choices, go directly to the airline sites to make price comparisons.
One likely possibility for a stopover is the Emirates, either Dubai or Abu Dhabi, or their close neighbour Qatar. Their "national" airlines promote stopovers, although you should allow two nights if you want to see anything.
Also give serious consideration to flying home from a different European airport than Rome which can be more efficient in time and money than a simple round trip. Almost all sites now allow these multi-destination searches.

from australia, you have two choices for a stop over. either somewhere in the middle east or somewhere iin asia.
in the middle east , dubai is a great stopover.
in asia people stop in singapore. but i think KL is a good stopover. HK is goodtoo but unless you really want to go there it adds a bit toflying time compared tosingapore or KL.
once you decide where you want to go research the airlines and the prices.
