Trenitalia Day/Month or Month/Day
Trenitalia does not write out the dates of when you are booking. is 6/8/2004
Aug 6, 2004 or
June 8, 2004
Is assume that that is is Aug 6 since d/m/y yearis thenorm most places outside the US.

On the website (http://www.trenitalia.com/), above the date boxes which you fill in, it reads "Datedd/mm/yyyy)"
That stands for Day/Month/Year. If you try entering a number over 12 in the second (month) box, you will get an error message.
So yes, in your example of 06/08/2004, that would be 6 Aug, 2004. (Which is how the date is generally written out in Europe.)

On the Italian site, where you have to go to buy tickets on line, it merely says "Quando vuoi partire?" There is no clue as to the order of month and day.
