For me that is too short a journey to make a plane trip worthwhile. By the time you get to and from the airports, wait for flights, fly, etc. you could have already gotten there by train with much easier logistics.

The thing about taking the train mhangs is you get off the train at the Santa Lucia Train in Venice proper which puts you right there along the Grand Canal rather than having to get into Venice from the Marco Polo Airport. So to me that is so much easier.
Here is the English language version of the Trenitalia website for your review. Please note, the Mestre Venice Train station (which is before the Santa Lucia Train Station) is on the mainland so you don't want to get off at Mestre.

We trained from Venice to Florence (about 2-1/2 hrs) and then a few days later from Florence to Rome (1-1/2 hrs on the express).
I also would highly recommend you train it instead of flying. The sites are beautiful, the cost quite reasonable. "Second class" on Trenitalia is awesome. Roomy seats with foot rests, tray holders and lots of space for luggage. Additionally, there is usually a food car on the train and you can pick up snacks or lunch, etc.
Train it! You won't be sorry!

I also considered flying and ended up taking the train, however, here's a link for flight information.
