I have booked a cruise starting and ending in Rome. I need some information about getting from the airport to the port. Also tips on hotels at the port.

Since your title doesn't mention which airport/port/city many people will not see your thread. I would re-post w/ Rome in your title.

Given the fact that you'll have luggage and assuming your cruise leaves from Civitavecchia, it seems there are several options.

You could do it by rail which is probably the cheapest mode. You would take a train from the Rome airport (Fiumicino..I assume that is the airport you'll be arriving at) toward Rome itself <b>but change</b> at Roma Trastevere (not the main station downtown called Termini) for another train to Civitavecchia. The trip from Trastevere to Civitavecchia will take about an hour. This is a regional train and reservations are not required.

This trip will certainly cost less than 10 Euro and you can check schedules at www.trenitalia.com

The Civitavecchia RR station is about a ten-minute walk from the port <b>entrance</b> and your ship will almost undoubtedly be docked further on.

I would take a taxi from the RR station directly to the ship's docking point rather than hauling luggage, rolling or not, that far.

Other options would be to buy one of the cruise line's transfers or arrange for a private driver. There may even be further options someone else will think of.

I am not sure there is any bus service from Rome to Civitavecchia although there might be but you still have the issue of getting to the ship docking point.

As to hotels in Civitavecchia I cannot help. This is mainly a small port town..I'm not saying don't stay there but compared to Rome I suspect most folks would prefer to stay in the city itself.

BRIALL

just returned from a 21 day vacation--4 nights in Venice--took es train from venice to roma and then changed to the local train go to Civitavecchia (cruise port). We stayed at a great hotel in Civitavecchia (clean &amp; comfortable). The hotel had a cocktail bar and a complimentary breakfast room. Hotel Traiano run by two brothers Giani and Alesandro--both spoke great English, very curteous and helpful. They provided complimentary transportation from their hotel to the cruiseport--Infact, they were so nice, we arranged return transportation from the cruiseport to Fiumicino Hilton Hotel on our return--More resonable than any other shuttles/limos I priced.
From the Airport Hilton there was a complementary motor coach that took people into Rome City Center--from there you can either walk or jump on another bus to your destination.
Giani also recommended a restaurant in Civitavecchia that was exquisite--Capo Horn--food was EXCELLENT--Highly recommend Hotel and restaurant
