The first ATVO (express bus) to Marco Polo Airport leaves from Piazzale Roma at 5:00 a.m.; it should, at that time of the morning, arrive there in 20 minutes or less. I don't think the airport opens before 5:00 a.m...

There is a N (notturno; night) line of ACTV (the Venetian vaporetto system) that will get you from almost anywhere in Venice to Piazzale Roma. It may or may not operate as usual in the night from December 31 to January 1. Your hotel should know, as it should know whether the ATVO bus operates as usual.

The easiest is probably to ask your hotel to order a water taxi for you. It will cost 90 Euro or more, in view of the early hour and the holiday.

The water taxi at the break of dawn is quite a memorable way to end your European trip. Highly recommended.

Look at www.venice-limousine.com We used a company them in Oct/06 to get us to the airport. Very professional and very reasonably priced. We went from the port to the aiport for about 65 Euros on our own car. I think they also do water taxis.

You will need to check if the vaporettos & buses are running New Years Day. Certainly the vaporettos were not running on the Grand Canal on NYD until late morning when we were there in 2005. If they're not you'll have to either take a water taxi (which I'd reccomend) or a water taxi to Piazzale Roma and a land taxi from there.

I agree that a water taxi out is the way to go. It was worth the extra money to have our last impressions of Italy be so serene and beautiful.
