Train Travel in Italy & France
Hello - I need some help getting my head wrapped correctly around train travel in France and Italy. I have looked into raileurope.com and trenitalia.com but am still a little confused....please help me with the following train travel between:
- Nice to Monterosso
- Monterosso to Florence
- Rome to Naples
I thought I could purchase a multiday train pass from raileurope.com but when I checked scheduling for the above travel trips, the schedules seemed limiting (travel times from Nice to Monterosso for example only at 6pm)?
For the above destinations, any recomendations for train travel?
Thank you very much.
Peace,
Megan

The schedules on RailEurope only show a small number of principal trains. For complete schedules between these cities, go to the German Rail site:
http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en
A rail pass would probably not be the most economical if this is all the travelling you will be doing.

Instead of a rail pass, buy individual tickets.
Nizza-Genova
Genova-Monterosso al Mare
Monterosso al Mare-Firenze
(Firenze-Roma?)
Roma-Napoli
Unless you are traveling on weekends in the high seasons, you should be able to purchase these tickets in France and Italy without much advance.
Even if you are traveling in high season, I would only book the Nizza-Genova leg in advance.

Thanks all....I think this is enough to get me going.
A couple train trips I didn't mention are:
- Paris to Avignon
- Napoli to Sorrento
We plan to rent a car in Avignon and drive in Provence (Gordes) and then drive to Nice.
We also plan to rent a car while leaving Florence and drive down to Pienza and had planned to drive from Pienza to Roma.
Based on your responses, it I wouldn't need a rail pass and shouldn't pre-reserve my tickets, right?
Have a beautiful day,
Megan

The Naples to Sorrento train is a commuter line called the Circumvesuviana. See http://www.sorrentoinfo.com/timetabl...n_sorrento.htm or www.vesuviana.it
