train tickets in Italy

hi all,

We are travelling from dijon to venice and have purchased our tkt from dijon to bologne trainsthrough www.voyages-sncf.com, we have to change trains at bologne but www.trenitalia.com does not allow to purchase bologna to venice tkt on 28th oct morning! Why would that be??? Is there any local italian website to purchase tickets other than www.italiarail.com...!!!

Would you rather suggest to buy tickets locally...!!!

Thank u,
dipti

I had no trouble pulling up trains for October 28th, Bologna to Venice, on trenitalia.com.

We were looking from trains from Bologna, Italy to Venice, or from Bologne, France to Venice?

But when I went to book the ticket, up to the point before you enter the credit card I got an error message.

If you are trying to buy a slow regional train (R or RV) there is no point in buying those tickets in advance. There is no discount on R trains and no reserved seating. Buy them when you get to Bologna. If you want to see the prices on Trenitalia for R or RV trains, you must enter a date within the next 7 days.

You can book the faster trains (AV,ES,ESCity,IC) in advance (four months) and usually get a discount (Mini Fares).

Without looking at the schedule it is most likely a regional train which cannot be prepurchased on the web till the week before. But there is no reason because regional tickets are never discounted and NEVER sell out so buy the day you go and do not forget to validate in the little yellow box.

I just purchased 3 sets of tickets on the trenitalia site and was able to get all mini fares! My last set I purchased was Oct 30. Thank you to the people on this site for explaining how to use the trenitalia site and to use the Le Frecce part.
