train in France information

I would like to book train tickets from Paris to Marseille, but I'm not sure whether to pick first or second class. There will be 3 adults and 2 kids travelling. Is the first class worth the extra cost? What is the major difference between first and second class? Thank you for any input.

Hi K,

At www.voyages-sncf.com they are offering PREMS fares of 49E per adult in 2cl, and 50E pp in 1cl.

Generally speaking the differences are just what you'd expect -- First class tends to have slightly more comfortable and spacious seating, the air conditioning is likely to work a little better, and it may be less crowded.

I found 2nd class PREMS for E25.00 and 1st class PREMS for E45.00. And I found iDTGV tickets for E19.00.

PS,

2 adults and 3 kids under 11 in 1cl would be 243E, instead of 444E in 1 cl and 195E in 2cl.

It's 3 hr. I'm not sure that 1cl is worth the extra 50E.

90 days out, I find 2cl for 2 adults and 3 kids for 154E and 232E in 1cl.

Tim, for what day did you find 25E.
