Traditional Music in Killarney

We have just two nights in Killarney before heading back to the States. Can anyone recommend pubs for listening to "sessions" music? We had 4 nights in Dublin but for a variety or reasons, we never made it to a pub where the musicians were holding a session. Surely somewhere here in Killarney, we can enjoy a good evening of listening.
Thanks!

Had to make a decision before you were able to respond. Ended up at the Grand Hotel...3 musicians and a whole pub full of what my guess is American tourist...of which I am one. I was disappointed because the drunken chatter and the clapping seemed to drown out the music. Maybe tomorrow night's adventure will be more enjoyable.

Could have stayed downstairs for that. No problem in drunken chatter and clapping if it's part of having the craic with the locals, slightly different atmosphere. Anyway take care and have a good adventure tomorrow.

Do yourself a favour at some time before you leave check out the Cathederal. Just for 10 seconds stand in the aisles and close your eyes. I don't do god but it's an interesting feeling.

Yes. Just returned from Killarney last month. Kate Kearney's Cottages. Went twice and loved entertainment and food. Can listen from general dining room or buy fixed price meat in entertainment room. We did fixed price and glad we did. Music and dancing. Beautiful drive to get there. Have your hotel call them to reserve a table.

Unfortunately, Philip, we don't have a car, so if Kate Kearney's is not within walking distance, we'll have to pass. I'll ask the hotel clerk if she knows how far it is.

Our tour bus driver for today's Ring of Kerry "adventure through the rain" said we should go to Murphy's over on College Street for dinner and hang around for the music. He said putting up with the American tourist is simply "required" by locals because they are dependent on us.

Couldn't get in Murphy's @ 8:00 as planned because of the soccer fans having taken over EVERY pub in town! We ended up eating at Salvador's, where the game (Ireland vs Spain in the World Cup)was on every tv but the customers were't really watching. It was comfortable and quiet and the food good. Ireland ended up losing 4-0, so needless to say, the pubs cleared out. We then were able to get into Murphy's, where 3 musicians were playing. My only criticism was that they had microphones and the amplification was way toooo loud and the singer sounded more like he was shouting than singing. I think I am spoiled by a previous trip to Ireland, where we found ourselves in out-of-the way places that had pubs filled with locals and musicians who came to play for their enjoyment rather than to entertain a crowd.

It's another rainy day, so we've not done any major sightseeing. My girlfriend and I did walk down to St.Mary's Cathedral on New Street...it's very, very nice! Glad for the opportunity to see it. Hubby and friend walked into the National Forest for an hour and happened upon a Cathedral there where they took shelter from the rain. That was a "St. Mary's" too??? Not sure about that.
