Toulouse Hotel and Albi Hotel France Suggestions?

Hi all, we're counting the days to our French Adventure in the Dordogne and Lanquedoc region for our first visit. Thanks to all who helped with our itinerary. I promise to post a detailed trip report.

I have one last request for advise. We still haven't booked our hotel for 2 nights in Toulouse at the end of our trip. I've poured over the web and can't get a feel for where to stay. Many hotels by the train station have good reviews but claim the area around there isn't the best.

We will be dropping off our car, so no need for parking.

We'd love to stay closer to the sights. Does anyone have a recommendation for a two night stay in Toulouse. We'd like to pay under 200 euros since the exchange rate to dollars is high.

I haven't booked our one night in Albi yet, so suggestions would be appreciated.

Also, I have booked all of our other hotels/B&B's direct. Does anyone recommend using any of the web-booking sites for Toulouse and/or Albi? Thanks in advance.

We loved our stay at the Grand Opera hotel in Toulouse. Just steps off Capitol Sq. we could walk to everything. There were so many outside restaurants right on the Sq. it was hard to choose.

We were there at the beginning of our trip and then took a cab to the train station to pick up a car. I would think that you could return your car, then take a cab to the hotel and be able to walk to all the sites, restaurants, & shops.

The hotel is old, very French, and it seems that you can get a room under 200 Euros. We did through www.booking.com
Of course, at that price we had no view but it was the fantastic location that we were looking for.

We've stayed here twice, 5 years ago it was around 85€ a night, think it has gone way up. It's just behind the Place Capitole so also great location.

I really like the Mercure there (the Toulouse Wilson). It is modern, but the location cannot be beat, and it isn't noisy like the place Capitole might be. There are tons of sidewalk restaurants nearby and a cute little park. It isn't a long taxi ride to the train station.

I don't know what shops you want to walk to, that hotel is only several blocks from the place Capitole.

Thanks so much for the replies. This helps me narrow it down. I like all the suggestions especially... location, location, location. So nice to stroll around at night.

I'll second the earlier recommendation for the Hotel Albert 1 in Toulouse, and add a reco for the Hostellerie Saint-Antoine in Albi. It's located in the historic center and only a few blocks from the square with Saint-Cecile Cathedral (exterior formidable, interior breath-taking!) and the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum.
