Thalys and Eurostar disrupted

Fire in an lectrical cabinet somewhere in France has impact on Eurostar (some trains canceled) and Thalys.
If you travel today or even in the coming days please check.

Actually, it was yesterday that Gare du Nord was completely closed down (including the RER B). The theft of electrical cables caused the fire.

Everything is now back to normal according to the 1 o'clock news.

Interesting, in the UK we stopped cash scrap metal sales and brought all such deals into the banking system. As a result we no longer needed to have Ghurkas protecting the train cables to York.

How is scrap metal sold in France?

It is supposed to be strictly controlled but there are always shady dealers.
