Southampton dock to Heathrow airport

Wife and I will be completing our Golden Princess cruise on July 21 in AM (Southampton) and must catch a flight out of Heathrow at 3PM. What is best way to get there? Because I know there is no direct train I suppose a taxi would be best alternative. Which is the best to use for the most reasonable fare?

Appreciate any thoughts on this matter!

Do a search for "southampton", it's been asked several times over the past few months.

It depends on how much luggage you have, and what you want to spend. Easiest would probably be a taxi or driver, but this would cost you around £100 at a guess.

The "cheap" alternative would be a taxi to Southampton bus station, and a national express coach to Heathrow. These run hourly, take between 90 minutes and 2 hours (depending on time of day) and cost around £14 pound each.

A third way, but possibly no great advantage would be by rail to woking, then change to the railbus to heathrow (buy a single ticket at southampton for heathrow). Trains are frequent, but get very busy during rush hour. Cost is around £30 each.

A car service from the dock to LHR will cost around £125-140. You might try to find someone who could share it with you; we did this last year when we arrived on the QM2. Worked out well.

You might post to the Princess board at www.cruisecritic.com, and arrange a meeting place/time on the ship.

I based my £100 quote on the price paid by my work colleagues from their homes to Heathrow. I live near Southampton. Prices on assorted websites do indicate £125-£140.
