Sorrento for 3 nights/4days. Where to stay, what to do..

My wife and I will be arriving in Sorrento in late May by ferry and will NOT have a car. We are planning to stay in Sorrento for 3 nights. Our plans are to visit Amalfi, Positano, Pompeii and Capri which brings me to my questions.

1. We have two finalists for lodging.

- Casa Mazzola: in the hills overlooking bay of Naples and Sorrento. Great views, wonderful hosts, bigger space, wi-fi, shuttle service to train station. The only negative is that it's not in Sorrento town center and we don't have a car, so we'll need to take public transport from Sorrento town center to this b&b.

- Casa Correale: in Sorrento town center, walking distance to everything in Sorrento town center. Nice place surrounded by lemon trees. Smaller room, no views, no wi-fi and not as much personal attention according to reviews, but VERY convenient.

Based off our itinerary, which place would you all recommend?

Both are the same price.

2. What kind of itinerary would you recommend for the places we'd like to visit? Is it doable or are we cramping too much into 3 nights/4 days?

We leave Rome early Sunday morning to Naples by train, then ferry to Sorrento from Naples. We'll have the rest of that Sunday till Wednesday afternoon to explore this region. remember, we have NO car!

Thanks everyone!

Any particular reason for taking the ferry from Naples to Sorrento? Be much simpler to take the Circumvesuviana light rail line. You'll pass by Pompeii Scavi on the way. If you like you can get off, stow your luggage, tour the city and then continue on to Sorrento. Amalfi and Positano are easily reached by SITA bus from Sorrento, and the ferry may also be an option. Capri can be reached by ferry from Sorrento. So, day one, Pompeii, day two, Amalfi and Positano, day three, Capri. Rearrange as the weather dictates.

Also check out the Grand Excelsior Hotel, very nice with a view of the sea and you can just walk out of the hotel walk-way into town. We loved our stay there. We took the bus to the Amalfi coast and back one day. You can take the ferry to Capri (as Fra_ says), we also went to Pompei one day. We also did not have a car.

I would not stay somewhere like Casa Mozzola without a car as it's quite a distance from Sorrento. If you state your budget, you might get some better suggestions. There are quite a few B&B's/hotels closer in that offer views and regular shuttle service to town. If Il Nido is in your price range, they have free shuttle except for a few hours mid-day. Il Nido is also on the Sita bus line to Amalfi/Positano. I would be surprised if Casa Mozzola is as it's in another direction from town. There is no public bus listing for them on venere.com as a transport option. Are you sure they are on the bus line?

I agree with Fra Diavolo about not going to the hassle of getting from the Naples train station to the port (taxi or tram), ferry to Sorrento (which you will probably have to wait for), getting from the Sorrento port up to Sorrento (taxi or bus) and then getting to your hotel. It's easier to just go downstairs in the Naples station and get on the Circumvesuviana train. You also might consider taking the Marozzi bus from Rome to Sorrento (7am departure from Tiburtina station) for 17.50€. Return options are 6am or 5pm (5 pm in summer only).
