Sorrento Day Trips - Capri, Positano, Amalfi Coast
Hi All,
We are spending 4 days in Sorrento at the end of August and we are planning to use it as a base to go on some day trips and I was after some advice. (On one day we will visit pompeii)
This will be the last stop on our european trip so we are probably looking to relax a little. We do enjoy going to the beach but of course being europe beaches they arn't very good but I have been reading about beach clubs on Capri. Has anyone been to one on Capri? How much are they? What do they offer? Is there any good swimming at any of them ( i see some have pools). Is there much public transport on Capri? Easy to use?
At the moment I think we will be visiting Pompeii and Capri but does anyone else have any other suggestions. We are a couple in our early 20's looking to enjoy some of the coastline at the end of our tip. Some people have suggested Positano and Amalfi Coast, are these easy to reach via public transport from Sorrento?
Any help would be much appreciated Cheers

There is a bus from Sorrento that goes down the Amalfi Coast and it is a truly incredible experience. It can easily be done in one day and there is a train back from Salerno at the south end to Sorrento with a change in Vesuvio . It would be worth getting off in one of the many beautiful towns and taking a later bus down the coast.

If you like islands, you may enjoy coming over a day to Ischia...

The hydrofoil service from Sorrento usually runs something like this, and costs about €16 each way..

Otherwise the Campania region has plently more to offer...

This may give an idea of the time the buses and trains etc take to do the various journeys ashore..

In August the buses will be sheer hell - mobbed and perhaps having to wait for the next one to get on. I think ferry along the coast is much faster and prettier views.
Capri has somme hotels with beaches (I believe very big $) but do;t know how good they are. Not sure if there are just beach clubs - perhaps someone who has used one can provide info.
In the area we stay at a hotel in Sorrento with a great pool and set in a beautiful garden - with the other side overlooking the Bay of Naples. We stick with the pool - since beaches in hte wole area are poor and the Med boring (versus the north atlantic).
