Size of Italian Passports
I am sewing passport covers as gifts for Italian relatives. What is the size of the present Italian passport? Is it about the same shape as the American passport? Thanks for your help.

someone asked this question 4 years ago on another forum and the answer was:
Reading through your previous questions here why don't you just take a ruler and measure it. You hold dual citizenship [US/Italian] based on your previous questions. Should that be just a fake and you are really interested to know how an Italian passport looks like:
It's the same size than the U.S: passport but has a magenta colored cover.

My UK passport is the same size as my US passport, and all EU passports are supposed to be the same size, so the answer appears to be yes.
I hope you're building in RFID protection, I can't think of any other reason to use a passport cover. Mine have had hard use and have done fine without.

thursdaysd makes a good comment about RFID protection, although I'm not sure that's as big a problem as it is with credit cards. Anyway...
You could incorporate an RFID shield into the passport cover you're making. REI has one for $6.50.

A citizen of a particular country doesn't necessarily hold a passport from that country. I'm an Irish citizen (from birth) but I've never got an Irish passport. Two passports are plenty for me (Italian and USA).

With all due respect are you sure this is the best present?
Bear in mind that most Italians travel troughout Europe and many other nearby countries (Turkey, Tunisia etc etc) using only their Identity Card.

"Sewing" implies a cloth of some sort, which further implies that it is opaque. A passport "cover" implies something that covers the front and back of the passport. Therefore, your post implies creating an opaque cover to place over the front and back of a passport.
Considering that passport control officers need to see the covers of the passports, and that there are legal requirements for passports (go look up the International Civil Aviation Organization), this sounds like a terrible idea.
If you're just sewing some sort of pouch for holding the passports (see the REI product linked above), that's different, albeit a bit meh.
