Hello I am planning my trip..

I was thinking of Amsterdam --> Brughes --> Brussles....

but people are telling me to skip brussles-- thoughts???
what about ghent and/or antwerp????

Hi, how long is trip? If its a short trip I would skip Brussels, but if its a long trip and you really want to see Brussels then include it, but London has so much to see and do9 one can easily fill 7 days there , with perhaps a daytrip to Windsor or Bath, and Brugges has the "cute and quaint" factor, and Amsterdam, well its cute and unique, the buildings along the canals are so interesting, and there are several world class museums , and I can't say the same for Brussels.. I have to be fair though, I have only been to Brussels once, and it was years ago, but lets just say I was underwhelmed..perhaps it was based on some unfair comparisions, that same trip we did Paris , Rome, Munich,Salburg, Cannes, Venice and Mykonos and Paros etc( it was a 2.5 month long trip) but by the time we got to Brussels we were like "meh, its ok".

I personally would skip Brussels or at most 2 days but I love Antwerp So much to see , many museums and the waterfront,and good food!! 2 days was plenty for Brugges.

How are you getting to London. (I was thinking the Eurostar stopped in Brussels).

I like Brussels for a day. FWIW Brussels is the best airport transportation experience I have had (stay near the Grand Place, and be at the airport in approx. 15 minutes by train?!).

But as a city it has limited appeal beyond the Grand Place. We did a bus tour last time (hop on/off), including the atomium and the car museum. It was ok, but just not of the stature of other "major" cities (IMHO).

Skip Brussels-- I was there for three hours once; two hours longer than I should have......

I would do Amsterdam- Brugges- Paris- London. All train travel.

I like Brussels...more to it than great beer.
Amsterdam is more beautiful and has more to offer.
Brugges is small, charming and crowded.

We need a timescale to really help, but the Eurostar leaves from Brussels so why not spend the day there before getting the train, or go there the afternoon before, from Brugge, if you are getting an early train.

How long? Hard to answer. A'dam you could spend several days there and the environs (Harlem etc.) easily, though I think we've only stayed there 3 days at a time. Didn't one of the museums just reopen?

We only spent a day in Ghent on the way back from Bruges to Brussels. It was a really nice stop, but had to park our bags at the train station (which is doable). Great castle there to tour. Neat central area, with amazing churches.

If memory serves each time in Bruges we've spent 2 nights, so approximately 1.5 days on the ground. . We were there in March and it got a little busy during the day, but was nearly empty at night.

timescale was probably the wrong word. How long do you have to visit these three places? How long are you planning in each one?
Yes Brussels is where you get the train to London so it is easy to combine a visit to the city with getting the train, assuming you have enough time available.

I spent a few days in Brussels and really enjoyed it. There is a lot more to the city than manequin pis and cherry lambic But I agree with the others that to really answer this question, we have to know how much time you have for the trip to help you prioritize your time.

so is it correct to assume that you actually only have 3-4 days for Belgium?
I would probably pass on BRU and spend the time you have in Brugge-generally overrun with tourists- and Ghent-university town, good energy-... distances are short and Antwerp could be an easy jaunt for the day. Also if you plant yourself in Brugge, Ghent is only 30 minutes away, BRU 45. Trains run every 15-20 minutes to most cities!and they run late into the night. Just be advised that there are 3 train stations in BRU
