We spent the month of September on a GB trip once and had wonderful weather. I took long sleeved shirts, sweaters, and a rain coat; but it only rained a couple of days. You just need fall clothes that you can layer.

mmsanky! Thanks for the question...It's 95 degrees here and I can't seem to bring my mind to pack layers for our 9/12 trip or that all these layers will actually fit in my very small suitcases. I thought I was being savvy and spent $$ on 3 carryons that fit most airlines specifications...now they're all too big for the latest one bag restriction...guess we'll be "wearing" our layers on the plane...or is that allowed? Haven't read much about jackets/windbreakers needing to be packed or not?

Welcome to Fodors. I know this is your first post, but it really is next to impossible to answer "<i>specific advice on . . . . the trip in general?</i>" w/o at least some info from you. Where are you going? How are you traveling around from place to place (car, trains, buses, a tour) ? What sorts of things do you want to know?
As for packing - light clothing but everything layer-able. A folding umbrella is always good. And <u>comfortable</u> shoes.

At the moment it is about 20 degressC 70F & as we are going down to cornwall at the end of next week we are hoping the temperatures rise a little. It is always milder in cornwall than the rest of britain, so you could even need shorts. we have trouble knowing what to pack when we go & we only live 300 miles away. If you want to ask any more questions about england please email me.

September of 2000 had warm weather. You will need several short-sleeved tops per person, a couple of long-sleeved tops and a rainjacket and fleece to be used in some combination when it is cooler. The same weather gets different reactions from different people.
