Scotland with Kids
I will be travelling to Scotland in July with my family, including 3 boys, ages 12 / 9 /6. We will be staying in Glasgow and Loch Lomond for about a week - I have family in Glasgow, however, none of my cousins has any children...
Any thoughts as to special sights that would appeal to kids ? I will be renting a car for our stay...

A few other places include:
Kilchurn Castle is great for the kids to scramble around and the views are great.
There is also an excursion boat on Loch Katrine.
Taking the Gov't launch across the Lake of Menteith to Inchmahome Priory. The ruins are lovely and the whole island is easily explored, swans, fishing boats in the lake, etc. And it is a great place for a picnic lunch.
Having an ice cream cone out on the pier at Luss -- sitting out over Loch Lomond watching the boats on the Loch and the gulls, ducks and other birds.

Hi mayorl,
Sheila & Janis have given you some good tips for trips outwith Glasgow.
In the city itself I would recommend the Science Museum which is very hands on and actively encourages the children to get involved. I have two boys & my "little darlings" enjoyed it very much. As part of your admission fee you can access shows in the Planetarium which we found both entertaining & enjoyable. There are two additional on-site attractions for which you would have to pay extra - the Imax Cinema & the Glasgow Tower. The Tower has been closed to the public long-term for maintenance as it's supposed to rotate but doesn't! Apparently it's due to re-open soon, but I'll believe it when I see it!
Another popular place, especially for boys, is the Museum of Transport. Both these attractions are well known in the City & so I'm sure your family will be able to advise re locations etc. If not, however, I'll be glad to give you more details.
I would also strongly recommend a trip to Edinburgh - the Castle, Princes St. & the Royal Mile give the Capital a "wow" factor that Glasgow maybe lacks (much as I hate to say it). Don't take the car, however, as traffic can be heavy & Edinburgh is notoriously difficult to park in. There are regular train services linking both cities & the journey only takes around 45 minutes or so each way.
