Rome to Vietri Sul Mar

We must get from Rome to Vietri Sul Mar as quickly as possible as we only have four nights to see the Amalfi Coast in Sept. Any suggestions for this trip? We can rent a car in or outside of Rome and drive or take transit. Would be keen to hear any suggestions.

Fast train to Salerno and then take the local train to Vietri or the bus. It is very straightforward. Vietri Sul Mare is on the southern end of the Amalfi Coast and has a train stop.

I agree, fast train to Salerno, but from Salerno it is better to go by bus to Vietri sul Mare because there are only few trains a day!
You can take bus number 1 to Dragonea, 4 to Pompei or 9 to Siano. It are about 5 minutes to Vietri by bus and all the busses stops in Vietri.
Where do you exactly have to be in Vietri, I live there and can give you advice which bus you have to take, because there are small villages which belongs to Vietri and than it is possible you have to change bus! The busses I mentioned stop in Vietri Centre!

Yes, there are only 31 trains a day, but for suburban traffic in Southern Italy, that's not too bad.

There is one train from Salerno to Vietri every hour, there are 6 and some hours also 7 busses an hour to Vietri, so yes, for me, there are only few trains to Vietri!

Frankly, I would take the direct train from Rome to Salerno, then grab a taxi to Vietri. Faster and you don't have to worry about bus or train schedules. It is only a 10-minutee ride, if that.
