ROME TO ATHENS ....BEST WAY
In March I will be traveling from Rome to Athens. Flying is too expensive, or is it one-way? How long by train? Otherwise, I've been told by boat...nine to eighteen hours depending on where you want to end up in Greece. HELP....
Jill

only you can answer if it's one way- do you need to get back to Rome to catch a flight or are you flying out of Athens? There are no trains from Rome to Athens. I am not aware of boats, but perhaps there are some. depending on time constraints spending a day on a boat may not be a big deal, but I am sure flying will be best.

See www.europebyair.com if you are from the US. Or perhaps go directly to www.aegeanair.com if you are not.

Best wishes,

Rex
Take a train from Roma to Bari (www.trenitalia.com), then an overnight ship to Patra (www.superfast.com). From Patra, the ferry company should have a connecting bus to Athens, otherwise there are trains and hourly buses.
