restaurants at or very near Frankfurt airport

We have a 5-hour layover at the Frankfurt airport. It's on a Saturday during the day. We'd like to have a nice meal either at the airport or very near. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Take the S bahn into the city, get off at the Hauptwache and walk the Foodstreet/Fressgasse. There is a crowded popular simple Italian restaurant there, not first class ambiance but the food is really great and the price is unbeliavably low. I find Frankfurt to have quite a number of good Italian restaurants. There is another old Italian restaurant near the Konstablerwache where they serve a killer Parmesan risotto. They do the typical chese melting by putting the hot piping risotto into a wheel of Parmesan before they serve it to you. If you want to eat German, then you need to walk south towards the Roemer square where there is a row of reincarnated timberhouses with a huge square filled with restaurants.

If you're done eating and want to see a great museum, go to the Staedel museum.

The restaurant Neue Untere Schweinstiege in the Steigenberger Avance Airport Hotel has good regional food and quite a bit of atmosphere. It's in an old hunting lodge, attached to the hotel You can get there by taking the hotel shuttle from all terminals. About 10 minutes ride, at the most.

It seems that Steigenberger hotels have decent hotel restaurants. We had a six hour layover in Frankfurt so we checked in at the Steigenberger Frankfurter Hof. They also have a great restaurant & a bistro that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend as we've stayed at the same hotel on another trip before. My wife was able to take a shower and relax in the hotel while I explored the city on my own in that six hour layover. Many hotels have day rates which is about 50% of the overnight rate if you arrive in the morning/noon. There is an U bahn station just around the corner from the hotel.

I would recommend going into the city if you have 5 hours instead of hanging around the airport area feeling stuck. There's a lot more to see and enjoy in the city than at the airport area. Hauptwache S bahn station is only a 16 minute ride from the airport (the direct train leaves from the airport Regional Bahn Platform 1). You can easily leave your carry on luggage at the locker for a couple of euros unless you carry only a small carry on bag.

I finally remember the name of the simple Italian restaurant that serves wonderful authentic & inexpensive Italian dishes: GARIBALDI (delicious pasta with meats & seafoods and also pizzas). They shave truffles over their dishes as a finishing touch. Most of the dishes are around 10-15 euros. Kleine Hochstr. 4. They are open nonstop from lunch time to dinner time; always crowded, full of locals sharing tables. It's about 4/5 blocks away west of the Hauptwache S bahn station on the north side of the Fressgass
