Restaurant reservations Amalfi ASAP?

We arrive in Positano a week from Tuesday (yay!!!!)afternoon/evening. Do we need to make reservations for 4 people from the US for dinner that night? I don't want to fly from the midwest to New York, New York to Paris, Paris to Rome, train to Naples, car service to Positano and then have nowhere to eat! I have a feeling my travel companions will be very cranky by then. And I'm the designated 'travel agent.'Help!

Why don't you ask your hotel what they suggest? And if they suggest making reservations, ask them to make them -- it should be part of the service they offer.

P.S. Bear in mind that you and your travel companions are going to be pretty well exhausted by the time you reach Positano. For that reason, I would suggest that you ask the hotel not to make reservations in the most expensive restaurant in (or above) Positano but somewhere relatively close to the hotel where you can have a light meal before you all flake out...

That is an idea. I sometimes hesitate to ask hotel personnel for recommendations because there is the possibility that they work together with a tourist trap type of restaurant that is not very good. I have read about hotels doing that, it's not that I am a suspicious person!

I think you all will be so tired you had better have a low key dinner that first night too. Positano is a small town and most of the restaurants are good, I've never had a bad meal there but I can't account for all of them.

Your hotel has to keep up a good reputation so I don't think they will steer you wrong. Where are you staying?

At some point in your stay in Positano be sure to have your hotel call either Il Ritrovo or La Tagliata in Montepertuso. They are wonderful restaurants with great views of the coast and will also send drivers to pick you up. Donna Rosa in Montepertuso is also wonderful but don't have limo service.

No matter how tired you are, a nice relaxing dinner with friends in a great restaurant in Positano with a little vino can't be beat!

Thanks for all the good advice. I know we will be dead on our feet but a person's gotta eat, right? We are staying at Villa Rosa and will try to find someplace close unless we collapse first. Seaurchin - love your pictures of Amalfi, Rome, Florence!!!!!

Hi again, ask your hotel to call Brunos for you, it is a small family run restaurant on C. Columbo. You can sit outside across the street and have views over the cliff or sit inside.

Thanks for the compliments on the photos, if you remember one titled "roadside dining literally" that is the outside seating area of Brunos. Have their homemade pasta with eggplant or their puttnesca.

Have a wonderful time and let us know about all your fun!
