Rent a car in England
My wife and I are going to fly in London May 2 and leave May 12 flying in and out of Heathrow.
We have already been to London, so we would like to rent a car and travel thru England and Scotland.
We would like an automatic transmission (my wife doesn't drive manual) and have both of us be drivers.
Can anyone recommend a good rental car agency? I have used Hertz twice in Europe and did not have any issues. I know the cost of the auto trans will raise the price, but I believe I need it. I have done some pricing and it seems like it would be about $400.

I used to use Hertz when I had a corporate discount, but the only other time I've rented in England I used Enterprise. Automatic, very reasonable rates, and picked me up and dropped me off at the (Durham) train staion.

Even for people used to manual gear an automatic in UK is useful as they put the stick in the wrong place since they drive on the wrong side of the road.
I use Hertz Europcar Sixt or Avis for most of my rentals.

I've used Hertz (one of the founders of Dynamic Currency Conversion who used to have that written INTO all their contracts), Europcar, and Autoeurope and I would agree with using the latter for a variety of reasons. I am, in fact, using them for my next rental in Cornwall and I have been very pleased with their services.
In terms of planning routes I suggest you ALSO take a look at www.theaa.com and use the "route planner" link in the upper right corner of the page.
When you go to that page I think you'll understand exactly why I recommend its use for the United Kingdom.
