I don't have any personal experience with the hotel, but Martel, though a very interesting town (town of the seven towers) is definitely not a great base for visiting the Dordogne, if that's what you have in mind.

I should have added a bit more...I have rented a charming place in Carlux for 2 weeks in Oct. of 2006, but am now thinking of a trip the latter part of May for a couple of weeks. I thought I would spread myself out a little bit. I have been to the area a number of years back an saw all "the" tourist spots.
This might explain Martel. Also looking at Maison Dyson in Ambeyrac, perhaps for part of the time..Comments????

Don't know the hotel but we found Martel to be a thoroughly beautiful and charming village--lovely market and church and just gorgeous vistas everywhere. We loved it--went twice last year. It is a nice addition to a Dordogne trip--gets u to another area altogether.
Good luck,
