Thanks for the info, spaarne. That's good news. My husband and I will be landing in Amsterdam on 18 April 2013. We weren't planning on seeing the Rijks (again) because of the ongoing renovations, but now that they will be complete, we will definately have to include a visit to the museum in our plans.

Ik wil je bedanken voor deze video's en foto's en ook dat je mij naar jouw Fodor's post hebt doorverwezen. Ik ben slechts een beetje triest omdat ik dit jaar in de Rijksmuseum *voor* het eind van de renovaties was. Maar de renovaties zijn een reden meer dat ik misschien volgend jaar naar Nederland wil gaan!

Oh, bliss, oh joy! I have waited so long for this.

When I was broke and out of a job, and crashing with a friend in Amsterdam some 35 odd years ago, I would go to the Rijksmuseum every day. It was free then. I would "do" one single room each day for that entire winter.

One of the best times of my life.

Mostly, I had the room I was doing to myself; just me and my Dutch dictionary. I don't suppose that will be possible when it opens again, as the whole world will want a look.

Spaaren, thanks for the update. Must be fabulous. We visited back in the late 90's. What I remember, in addition to the classic paintings, were the "doll houses" of the royal children. If I recall, there were many of them.

Don't forget that the Stedelijk museum is finally open again too, and that the refurbished Van Gogh (hopefully) re-opens at the end of April next year too.
