Laanse Schans or Open Air Museum in Arnhem

Which one is better? Are they similar? Don't have time to go to both.I'm more interested in seeing authentic than touristy displays.I understand Arnhem is further away. Thanks! Monique

Do you mean De Zaanse Schans? I've never been to either, but I think Zaanse Schans is closer to Amsterdam. Peace, Robyn >-

I liked Zuiderzee folk museum the best..it's about an hour train ride away, stop at Enkhuizen. Tourist office sells the tickets, just beyond the train station.. then you ride a boat to the folk museum (outdoor). It's a recreated village with actual buildings from various places and craft demonstrations, etc. Gives you the 'feel' of village life.

ZS is a twenty minute trainride followed by aten-min ute walk to the site. It is a reconstructed village; you may or may not consider that "touristy" since it is obviously done for visitors.

It might deepend on the time of year in which you are traveling. I went to Arnhem in April and a lot of the craft demos and costumed interpreters were not there at that time of year. Don't know if summer has more to see. The buildings were interesting, but it is farther from Amsterdam.

I enjoyed both the museum at Enkhuizen and De Zaanse Schans. De Zaanse Schans had lots of windmills and the millers demonstrated the various things which they were milling.

Just my thoughts.
