Pumpkin Craving in Florence

This is a bit of an out there request for the forum but I know you all can help me!

As all my friends back home post about their first pumpkin spice latte of the season, the craving has hit me! I need some pumpkin in my life...

I'm living in Florence through the winter and would love any tips on how to fulfill my pumpkin craving in Florence. Anyone know of anywhere that serves pumpkin gelato, cappuccinos, or raviolis for the season? I'm willing to travel outside the city for it as well.

I'll be forever grateful

Best,
Kassandra of Ciao {Down} Bella

It is a very simple matter to go to Bologna, where you can buy delicious pumpkin-filled ravioli at Paolo Atti & Figli. Boil it for a few minutes and serve it with butter and sage.

You'd probably have to call or e-mail ahead to see if it is being made that day, but Il Gelatauro -- considered one of Bologna's top-3 gelaterie -- makes pumpkin-and-cinnamon gelato

30 minutes beyond Bologna, in Ferrara, one of Italy's most prized pumpkin-pasta dishes --cappellaci di zucca -- is made. Check Chowhound for a restaurant recommendation.

In November, in Ostellato, there is a pumpkin festival. I believe you can catch a commuter train in either Bologna or Ferrara for Ostellato.

Closer to home, I would think that if you went into the best gastronomia in Firenze that you would be able to find jars of high-end "zucca di crema" , which you can gently reheat and pour over hot gnocchi. Better yet, make it yourself. It's not hard if you have a blender. You can also use it as a base for pumpkin soup.

Also, I think Osteria Pepo in Firenze has pumpkin soup as a standard item on its menu.

Zeppole-you saved the day! We'll definitely be making a trip to Bologna soon & are putting the pumpkin festival on our calendars! Thanks for the wonderful tips! Until then, I'll pop into Osteria Pepo!
